Lawrence R. Delhagen, Sr.

Lawrence R. Delhagen, Sr., 75, of South Whitehall Twp., died May 4, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. He was the husband of Sheila K. (Boberg) Delhagen. Born in East Orange, NJ, he was a son of the late John E. Delhagen and Ruth (Zwinglas) Delhagen Lipinski. He graduated from Brown University in 1958 and began his career with Guardian Life Insurance Company, then became a salesman for Brown & Sharp in Cleveland, OH. He obtained his CLU designation and moved back to Rhode Island in 1967, working for a number of insurance companies including National Life of Vermont and had his own general agency with Manhattan Life in Providence. Later he was a franchisee for Dale Carnegie in Rhode Island and was an instructor for all of their courses. He ended his career with Sandler Sales Systems in Warwick. Larry was a past president of the Warwick Rotary Club, the JCs and the Brown University Alumni Association in Euclide, OH. He also served as a board member of Save the Bay in its early years and alumni president of Delta Phi Fraternity at Brown. In 1983 he ran for the Rhode Island State Senate as a nominated Republican. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Emmaus.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Sheila; sons, Larry Delhagen Jr., and his wife, Kathy, Emmaus, Dr. Jack Delhagen, and his wife, Jennifer, Round Rock, TX; brother, Jack Delhagen, and his wife, Marty, Estero, FL; grandchildren, Nicole, Allissa, Tori, Jackson, Justice and Grady.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10th, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 139 N. 4th Street, Emmaus, PA 18049. Family and friends may call Wednesday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
